I am the owner of David J Hurd Registered Massage Therapy. I graduated from the Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy (OVCMT) in 2007 after completing their 3000 hr program and became registered with the College of Massage Therapists of BC in 2009. Since then I have practiced in 4 multi-disciplinary offices between Port Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, and Mission.
I have enjoyed biology and anatomy since my youth, at 5 years old, giving foot and shoulder massages to my mother and later grandparents and friends, and later taking as many science courses as I could through middle and high school. Since graduating from OVCMT I have done a variety of continuing education courses related to structural integration and anatomy lines in the body, broadening my understanding of how the body interacts within itself and the environment. I have always loved working with athletes and pregnancy as the body reactions are different and unique as the clients physiology adjusts during gestation or training. That being said, I have worked with my own 6 children since birth, had clients as young as 3 and as old as 93, working with everything from chronic pain management, growing pains, or posture and stress aches to recovery from injuries, accidents, or athletic training. I believe that massage should be part of everyone’s health team to assist in preventing injury caused by imbalance within the body and mounting stress.
In my “off time,” I am heavily involved in the Scouting community as a section lead for our local Cubs and Scouts sections, supporting my wife and kids in their many endeavors, getting out in nature when I can with hikes and camps, and doing odd jobs around the house, including building the tree fortress you will note when you come to the office. I look forward to getting to know you as we work towards a more balaced and in tune you.
Be Well.
